Nearly 500 manufacturing units at the SIDCO Industrial Estate here have submitted a common memorandum to the candidates contesting the elections this year, seeking better facilities at the estate and also simplification of norms for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
According to the Coimbatore SIDCO Industrial Estate Manufacturers’ Welfare Association (COSIEMA), the units are suffering without water supply for the last five years. Though they have paid 20 per cent of the total project cost under the Industrial Infrastructure Development project, the water problem has not been addressed.
Some of the units at the estate are also hit because the value of the land allotted to them by SIDCO several years ago has been fixed as nil recently. This issue has also not been addressed so far.
The SIDCO should provide facilities and infrastructure to small and medium-scale enterprises and the Government should allocate funds for this. It should also ensure that benefits of government schemes reach the units. Interest subsidy of eight per cent should be extended to the units at the estate and those in backward areas, irrespective of the size of the industry, and the subsidy should be paid to be banks directly.
Pollachi road, on which the estate is located, should be widened to ease flow of traffic. The association is in the process of developing a new industrial estate. The government should give all the clearances under single window system for the project.
It should announce a special scheme for ease of doing business and establish a skill development centre and material testing laboratory at the estate.
The State Government has introduced a new portal for payment of Value Added Tax, though industrial associations sought time for adopting it. The views of the industries should be considered and the online system should not be followed till then. Further, the cost for registering documents for mortgaging in banks should be reduced as even the MSMEs pledge documents of immovable properties to get loans. The cost was Rs. 5,000 earlier and Rs. 25,000 now.
