Health authorities projecting false figures with regard to dengue deaths in the city allege N. Karthik MLA

"The mounting deaths due to outbreak of dengue, swine flu and other contagious illnesses in the State of Tamil Nadu is a proof for the ineptness of the Health and Sanitary Department that functions under the aegis of Minister C. Vijayabaskar", said MLA Karthik of Singanallur Constituency.

This morning, MLA Karthik paid a surprise visit to the Dengue Ward of Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) to understand the real state of affairs in the ward and if proper medical facilities are administered to the victims. He interacted with RMO, Soundravel to understand the number of people admitted and stock of medications.

Speaking to the press after his visit, MLA Karthik said that "Following the orders of MK Stalin, Working President of DMK asking the MLAs to visit the Government hospitals of their constituencies in person and report on the prevailing sanitary conditions, I have come here to CMCH to visit the dengue ward. The number of deaths and admissions projected by the hospital authorities doesn't sync with the real time figures".

"While the authorities claim that the situation is under control, deaths due to dengue are still on rise. Even last week, 8 patients have lost their life in private hospitals to dengue. When the situation is under control why are death rates still on rise?", he questioned.

"Among other reasons, insufficient stock of dengue medicines are also one of the reasons for rise in death toll. The sanitation standards in the city and in the rural areas are in a pathetic state, if left unattended more people could get infected by such infectious diseases" MLA Karthik said.
