Despite petitions officials reluctant to initiate action on encroachers - Pudhupalayam Village People petition Collector.

The people living in Pudhupalayam, Sultanpet of Coimbatore District have petitioned the District Collector to protect their livelihood as the only water source in their village has been encroached by private people who have broke the boundaries of the pond and letting the water out for their personal benefits.

Speaking on this the people said that "Our entire village depends on that particular pond for our water needs. Due to the incessant rains in our area, the pond is filling up fast. The pond not only caters to our daily water needs but also aids in infiltration of water to the subsoil, thereby rejuvenating the water table.

"In the recent past, a few people who have encroached the pond area have damaged the boundaries of the pond and letting the water ooze out to the barren lands. They are purposefully obstructing the water flow to the pond for their personal benefits. Despite petitioning to the officials, no action has been initiated. Such encroachments on water bodies are a serious threat to the nature and the people", the people greieved.

"With high hopes we have now approached the District Collector seeking a remedial measure" they added.
