The opposite parties have been on a protest spree against the City Corporation alleging tax hike of property and water taxes. Every alternate day there is some political outfit staging agitations in front of the Corporation Office seeking withdrawal of hiked tax structures. The continued protests have triggered the people to question the reason for hike in Corporation taxes.
Clarifying the queries regarding the tax structure and the amendments, Corporation Commissioner Dr.K. Vijayakarthikeyan has stated strongly that "As such there is no hike in tax structure be it Property or Water tax. People are being continuously misled with wrong informations indicating increase in tax structure."
Property tax
Taxes have been leived for those buildings which have undergone structural renovation, those buildings whose measurement has not be accurately measured in the past and left out buildings. And the tax structure is no not any diffrent, the same structure which has been followed earlier.
Water tax
Clarifying about the water taxes, Corporation Commissioner said "The City Corporation has successfully implemented the II Phase of Pillur water scheme at a cost of Rs.159.85 crores. After the implementation of the project, the water needs of the city has been drastically addressed. Earlier, the water tax structures were revised at the Council and a resolution was also passed approving the same".
He also added "No additional changes have been appended by the Corporation to the existing tax structure. Collection of approved tax structures is the norm hence people are requested to understand the norms and stay away from unwarranted information.
Those people from areas like Kurichi, Vadavalli and Kuniamuthur, Kauvdampalayam are already paying the recent tax structures as their wards have been attached to the list, recently.
But those who have procured water connections before 1st October, 2013 are requested to pay their arrears and revised tax structure with immediate effect", he said.
The Corporation Commissioner has requested the public to co-operate in this regard and pay taxes on time to aid the City Corporation render best of it's services.
