"The Central Government's move to close down the Government of India Press functioning at Coimbatore would adversely affect the interest of Tamilnadu and the employees working in press", said K. Ramakrishnan, General Secretary, Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK).

Briefing the press on this, he said that the central government has planned to close down 6 such printing presses including one functioning at Veerapandi panchayat near Coimbatore and merge it with the printing presses functioning in North India.

""The press which was started in 1964 during Kamaraj rule has been providing jobs to thousands of workers in the city", he said.

“"The move to modernize the presses in North India and shutting down the operation of presses functioning in Tamilnadu, Kerala and Karnataka amounts to betraying the interests of the states. While 70 employees are working the said press in Coimbatore, the press continues to give indirect jobs to thousands of employees in Coimbatore, whose livelihood would be in question if the press is closed down”, said Ramakrishnan in his statement.
