Close to 493 tribal people from the District of Nilgiris were provided with Forest Rights Certificate as per the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006.
District Collector, Inncocent Divya distributed the certificates to the tribal people and requested them to make use of the welfare schemes and benefits made available to them by the Government. She also urged the tribal people to send their kids to school as education is a great tool to uplift their lives.

"Funds for cattle rearing, setting green farms, harvesting honey are being provided to the tribals to uplift their livelihood" District Collector said. The welfare benefits distributed to them were done on behalf of Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare, Revenue and Forest Department.
The 'Forest Rights Certificate' is a result of the protracted struggle by the marginal and tribal communities of our country to assert their rights over the forestland over which they were traditionally dependent.
KR Arjunan, MP, Murali Ramba, SP of Nilgris District and other officials from the Revenue and Forest Department were present during the event.
