"There is no other event like Coimbatore Marathon that brings people from all walks of like and unites them on a sporting platform, for a cause" said Ramesh Ponnusami, Race Director of Coimbatore Marathon at the press meet held today, here.
"Over 13,500 runners will be participating at the fifth edition of Coimbatore Marathon scheduled on 1st October" said the Organisers at the press meet who also unveiled the official t-shirt and medals that the finishers will receive on the race day.

Coimbatore Cancer Foundation (CCF), a registered charitable trust dedicated to the counselling, care and support of cancer patients and their family members in association with Coimbatore Runners and Show Space Events, are hosting this Marathon.
Through the Marathon, CCF aims to sensitise the public about cancer, early detection with the help of screening camps along with follow up care and offer counselling for patients and their family as well.
"The entire route of Marathon will be fully supported by aid stations, hydration points, medical facilities, ambulance services, route markers, course marshals & the finish area with refreshments, etc. Timing chips will be used to keep track of the participants and provide official and personal times", the Organisers shared.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Balaji, Managing Trustee CCF said, “The enthusiasm, joy and energy experienced by everyone who is a part of this wonderful experience is truly amazing and energizing. We at CCF, are grateful to Coimbatorians for turning out in such large numbers and running for a great cause".
He also lauded the efforts of Mr. Ramesh Ponnuswami, Coimbatore Runners Club, Show Space, City Police department, Coimbatore Corporation, TNAA, CDAA and the Coimbatore community at large.
"Our marathon is the largest sporting event in Coimbatore and also the largest sporting event in Tamil Nadu, outside of Chennai. There is no other event like this in Coimbatore that brings people from all walks of like and unites them on a sporting platform, for a noble cause. We aim to improve thr running experience of the participants and set benchmarks for other running events to adopt or emulate, and continue to deliver a world class event to the City of Coimbatore,” said Ramesh Ponnusami, Race Director.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Murali S, Business Head, Vodafone Mobile Services Ltd said, “This is the fourth year of Vodafone’s association with the CCF. We are happy that this association has helped serve the community and support efforts to spread awareness on Cancer. The Vodafone Coimbatore Marathon has received approximately 13,500 registrations this year which is a positive indication of people’s support"
The Vodafone Coimbatore Marathon is recognized by the Tamil Nadu Athletic Association & the Coimbatore District Athletic Association which comprises of three events, a 21.1 km run (half marathon), a 10 km Run and a 5 km Run/Walk.

Prize money amounting to over Rs. 2.5 lakh will be presented to the winners in separate categories for men and women. The prize money for the Half Marathon (21.1 km run) will be Rs. 25,000/-, Rs. 15,000/- & Rs. 10,000/- respectively for the first, second and third place holders, while for the top three places in the 10 km category prize money will be Rs. 15,000/-, Rs. 10,000/- & Rs. 5,000/- respectively.

In the veteran’s category, the prize money for the top three finishers in the Half Marathon will be Rs. 15,000 /-, Rs. 10,000 & Rs. 5,000/- respectively, while for the 10 km run the first and second place will receive Rs. 10,000/- & Rs. 7500/- with the third place finisher taking home Rs. 5,000/-.
