Mining water bodies for alluvial soil with earth movers leads to destruction of biota - Tamilnadu Vivasayigal Sangam.

Alleging that the soil fertility would get affected when water bodies are mined for alluvial soil, the farmers who thronged the collectorate petitioned Collector T.N.Hariharan to stop the practice of mining with help of earth movers (poclain machine) as it would lead to destruction of soil biota including earthworms, amphibians, crabs and other flora and fauna.

Alluvial soil is being mined by farmers to utilize it for their land holdings after getting due permission from the Collector. The alluvial soil distribution scheme has been going on all over the state and farmers have benefited by it.

However farmers of Tamilnadu Vivasayigal Sangam said that the mining alluvium with earth movers is a dangerous practice and it should be stopped forth. Instead using traditional agricultural tools for mining should be encouraged.
