IRCTC denies restriction of bank debit cards to seven in its advance booking facility.

Denying that the there is  restriction imposed on card transactions in  IRCTC web site for advance booking train tickets, the IRCTC authorities clarified that  at no point in time , it was limited to only seven banks as is cited by some  sections of the media reports.

“In fact, we have as much as 7 payment gateways and all the bank debit/ credit cards are being accepted for booking tickets in the IRCTC web site. The wrong notion that IRCTC is demanding a convenience fee from the participating banks should be dispelled, as there is no such demand for convenience fee from our side” clarified a senior IRCTC official.

A recent  newspaper report carried in Indian Express cited that IRCTC, website a subsidiary of Indian Railway had stopped accepting debit card payments for advanced booking of train tickets from a number of banks including SBI, and only is permitting  seven banks including India Overseas Bank, Canara Bank, Indian Bank, United Bank of India, HDFC bank, and Axis bank for online transactions.

However the IRCTC authorities set the records straight by saying that all bank debit cards are being  accepted in the web site without any bias or exception, and there are as many as 7 payment gateways to book a tickets by using debit card, credit card, bank wallet, Paytm and other gateways.
