Relatives of the injured in Somanur bus stand incident demand additional grant to settle hospital bill.

Latha, a final year student and Marappa Gounder (94) who were grievously injured in the Somanur Bus Stand Collapse accident were undergoing treatment at a Private Hospital in Trichy Road.

Today, the relatives of Marappa Gounder staged a protest in front of the hospital demanding the government to help them settle the hospital bills as they hail from a poor economical background.

Speaking on this, a family member of Marappa Gounder shared that "At the time of the incident, the Ministers promised to take care of the medical expenses. As an initial payment they gave us Rs.50,000 towards medical reimbursements. Besides, which he have paid Rs.1,25,000 towards hospital bill. And, we are yet to clear around 2 lakhs to discharge him from the hospital".

"As we hail from a poor family background, we are unable to pool in the money to clear the bill. As promised, the government should take care of the remaining expenses and help him discharge", he pleaded.

Commenting on this, the Administrative Director of the hospital shared that "For Marappa Gounder, we have given a waiver of Rs.60,000-70,000/- from the total bill which is about Rs.3,90,000/-. The family have to settle another 2 lakhs upon which the patient can be discharged.

On the day of their admission, the Ministers and the District Collector visited the patient but they did not give any assurance in writing or oral commitment to the hospital about reimbursement of the entire medical expenses".

He also added that Latha, the College Student has been re-admitted due to some infection and that the treatment is on.
