The contractual laborers of City Corporation who are working as drivers and as cleaners of vehicles that carry waste, staged a demonstration in front of the Corporation Office in Town hall demanding pay hike, timely disbursement of pay and others.
More than 200 contractual laborers took part in the agitation insisting City Corporation to disburse monthly salaries on time, hike the pay for drivers to Rs.18,000, for cleaners to Rs.12,000, provide them safety clothing during work, reimbursement of laundry expenses, distributing Diwali bonus as per TN govt's announcement, to announce Sunday as a paid holiday and not to deduct loss of pay for sick leaves among other demands.
The contractual drivers and cleaners also stressed that CCMC should pay attention in maintaining the vehicles in good conditions and ensure the safety of workers at work.
