The second phase of eviction drive in Rajavaikkal has commenced today and the remaining encroachments in Vellalor Rajavaikkal, Aathumedu Nanjudapuram, Annanagar peelamedau Annanagar Ondipudur totaling about 856 structures and houses would be evicted in the ongoing eviction drive.
In a recent eviction drive of encroachments in Anaimedu, Muthu colony, Ukkadam tank south bank, Cheran nagar and Anna colony over 1000 hutments which have been pitched on the encroached channel lands and waterbodies have been successfully evicted by the joint operation of City Corporation. Kovai Kulangal Pathukaapu Amaippu, a volunteer -based social movement has cleared the debris in Rajavaikkal in the summer months and appealed to the PWD and City Corporation officials to evict the mushrooming encroachments. The movement members expressed their thanks to the authorities for expediting the process of the eviction and relocation of the people to allotted tenements by Tamilnadu Slum clearance Board.
The city denizens are happy about the eviction drive, which resulted in retrieving waterbodies to its original glory , which paved way for increased storage capacity.
