Protesting against steep hike in taxes levied by City Corporation for extending basic amenities and services the CPM cadres staged a massive picketing agitation in front of the City Corporation office.

Demanding to roll back of oppressive new taxation regime implemented by the City corporation, the cadres led by P.R.Natarajan former MP pointed out that additional taxes have been levied for garbage collection from Rs.20 to Rs.200 and an additional security deposit is collected from Rs.2,000 to Rs.7,500 for drinking water connections.
"The property tax which has been levied for the past 13.5 years should re-evaluated and taxes be reduced accordingly", the CPM cadres demanded.
"While the city has no Mayor or Councillors, several civic issues remain unattended in all 100 wards. While this is the current scenario, the Corporation officials levying additional taxes without understanding the issues faced by the public is highly inappropriate", the CPM leader said.
