Irate residents of Ganapathi barge into demolish the Public toilet peeved at increasing number of dengue deaths in the city.

Tension prevailed at Ganapathi as irate residents barged in to demolish the public toilet in the area. The residents were peeved at the unsanitary conditions prevailing in the area and complained about lack of basic amenities extended to them by the City Corporation.

The anger was triggered by the recent death of 10 year old Taj daughter of Khader Badshah of Ganapathipudur, a resident of the area. The girl succumbed yesterday in Government Medical College Hospital.

City corporation officials rushed to the spot and pacified the irate residents about 50 whom had picked up an argument with the sanitary officials of the area.

According to the affected residents the insanitary conditions in the sanitary complex and water logging had claimed the life of 10- year old girl Ganapathipudur who succumbed to dengue at Government Medical College Hospital. Mosquito menace has increased, even as civic staff are watching helplessly.

Children as they form most vulnerable section of the lot are getting affected by dengue and three deaths were reported in the past week alone. The death of 3 year old Divya Shree, is reported today and a 10 year old boy from Kangeyam also succumbed to the vector borne viral disease a couple of days back.

In this dismal scenario, the city denizens raise moot questions with regard to the role of City Corporation in maintaining public health “Are they really focusing on all the areas which needs immediate attention due to its insanitary conditions, like the one near Ganapathi”? Are the much advertised ward wise clean up campaigns are helping the cause? they ask.

Unless the corporation gears up its cleanup campaigns and concentrate on remote pockets the dengue menace would continue to claim young lives.

Will the Health inspectors and sanitary inspectors of the civic body listen to people’s mournful cries?
