The Chennai High Court has quashed the Goondas Act slapped on four persons including Activist Thirumurugan Gandhi for participating in Eelam war memorial service on the sands of Marina in May 23 last.
Thirumurugan Gandhi, coordinator of May 17 Movement and three others Arunkumar, Illamaran, Tyson were arrested when they organized “Ninaivendal” (memorial service) in commemoration of the ethnic massacre of Srilankan Tamils during the Eezham war (phase 4).
Later Chennai Police Commissioner had invoked provision of Goondas Act and four activists were jailed under the provisions of the act.
Hearing the petition filed by the four activists, the High Court quashed the Government order under which the four some were jailed under Goondas act and with this court order the foursome will be released soon.
