Govt of Karnataka honors 'Thanthai Periyar', announces to name Bengaluru bus stand after him.

The announcement by Ramalinga Reddy, Home Minister, Govt of Karnataka of naming Bengaluru bus stand after 'Thanthai Periyar', the Father of social revolution is receiving appreciations from the public and political outfits, especially from Tamil Nadu.

Though Periyar was born in Tamil Nadu, Periyar was not looked as a State or a National leader but indeed hailed as a global leader. It is to be noted that Periyar was honored by UNESCO as "New Age Prophet".

Tomorrow, the 17th September marks the 139th birthday of Periyar.  Keeping aside the differences with Tamil Nadu, this move by the Govt of Karnataka to honor Thanthai Periyar is a proof for Periyar's unmatched contributions to mankind itself.

Commenting on this Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy has affirmed that "While the nation is all set to celebrate the 139th birthday of the revolutionary leader, Periyar who fought not only against superstitious beliefs but indeed a remarkable leader who instilled the sense of self-respect, women equality and rational thinking in every single one of us. Hence, Govt of Karnataka decided to name the bus stand in Bengaluru after him, as a mark of respect on his 139th birthday".

The Minister also added that it is solely because of Periyar today we all are able to lead a respectful and dignified life. His protests, speeches on gender equality, superstitious beliefs and his notable self respect movement has benefited and will continue to benefit which indeed has made us all a better person.

"The revolutionary leader will be remembered by people forever as he carved the thought that every single soul born and to-be born deserves 'Self Respect", the Minister hailed.
