"No more warnings, shop keepers dealing with plastic covers will be taken to task" said Innocent Divya, District Collector of Nilgiris

Plastic Wastes have always been a huge menace to the environment. Several decades of dumping plastic wastes in landfills combined with increased usage of plastics in the form of covers and shopping bags have grievously contributed to the deterioration of our bio-diversity. Though the district of Nilgiris enacted the ban of plastic usage several years ago but still Nilgiris faces the threat of plastic wastes.

Over the years, the beauty of the 'Queen of Hills' has notably depleted due to continuous dumping of plastic covers in protected areas. Irresponsible tourists and vendors who hideously deal in plastic covers are the major contributors to this fade of beauty in Nilgiris.

In a bid to obliterate plastic covers in the hilly paradise, District Collector Innocent Divya has passed stern orders to the officials to conduct raids to rule out non-adhering vendors who deal or sell plastic covers.

The Collector, herself took part in one such raids and created awareness to the vendors on ill-effects of plastic covers and urged them to contribute positively to uplift the bio-diversity of the region. She also apprised that "No more excuses, necessary legal action would be initiated against shop keepers who deal in non-bio degradable plastic covers".
