A team cardiac surgeons of Government Medical College Hospital successfully operated on two patients who were suffering from congenital heart disease.
Two patients, 12-year-old Devaraj and 27-year-old Kanakaraj were diagnosed to be suffering from rheumatic heart disease. The team of doctors at CMCH decided to carry out a mechanical heart valve replacement surgery on them, which was the only option left.

A team of surgeons Dr.Srinivasan, Dr.Praveen, Dr.Mohammed Munnathullah performed the critical lifesaving surgery on the patients under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health insurance Scheme.
“It is a life threatening situation, where the patients develop breathlessness and swelling of knees. The valve replacement surgery could save the lives of the patients suffering from congenital heart disease. The cost of the surgery is about three to four lakhs", said Dr.Ashokan, Dean of Government Medical College and Hospital.

“Currently the heart valve replacement surgery is carried out only in Chennai and Coimbatore by the Government Medical College Hospitals”, Dr.Ashokan further said.
