Madras High Court orders ECI to decide on two leaves symbol, sets October 31 deadline.

Passing an order to Election Commission of India, to defreeze the two leaves symbol the Madurai bench of Madras High court ruled that ECI should decide on allotting the symbol before October 31 to either of the two contesting AIADMK camps.

Hearing the petition filed by Ram Kumar Adithan of Tiruchendur praying for a direction to ECI to allot the symbol to the faction which commands the majority support MLAs, MPs and cadres, the high court said ECI should expedite on deciding the symbol as per the followed protocol

“While in the case of split in Samajwadi party , the ECI took only 16 days to decide on allocating the symbol but in the case of AIADMK, it has been overtly delayed despite respective camps filing number of affidavits, in support of the claims for majority” the high court said.
