The Government probe would bring out the real reasons for the tragic accident and sudden roof collapse of Somanur bus stand which claimed five lives, and a detailed report would be submitted to the government with in two months period said Principal Secretary Gagandip Singh Bedi IAS heading the one man inquiry commission.
Accompanied by structural engineering expert team, and officials the senior IAS officer, inspected the ceiling of the bus stand and samples of concrete and iron bars have been lifted from the scene for laboratory test to arrive at a conclusion with regard to the roof collaspe and its immediate reasons.

“Core cutting machines were used to extract the samples of steel used for the construction and rebound hammer used to lift samples of concrete from the accident site” Gagandip Singh Bedi said.

Principal Secretary Gagandip Singh Bedi later conducted the public hearing at the Karumathampatti Town Panchayat office and general public and eye witnesses testified and deposed before the one man inquiry commission.
District Collector T.N. Hariharan, Murthy Superintendent of Police and Maduranthagi RDO attended the public hearing.

It may be recalled that five precious lives were lost when a portion of the roof crashed on waiting commuters on September 7 raising questions about the safety of public buildings and its maintenance.
