An estate worker Mani and his wife Anitha sustained serious head injuries when a huge tree got uprooted and crashed down on the tenement in Varattupalayam estate area.
The injured were admitted to a private hospital after an ambulance was called at the scene.
The mighty tree was uprooted as heavy rains lashed the Varatuparai and Valparai accompanied by high winds and the estate worker families living in row houses had a miraculous escape even as the uprooted tree only hit a portion of the row houses.
A portion of the house of Mani including in roof was totally destroyed in the tree fall.
The authorities should cut down old and weak trees, near the row houses where estate workers are put up, as it might pose a danger to the lives of estate workers say the Varattupalayam estate workers.
