The CBI has summoned Karthi Chidambaram, son of P Chidambaram, former Union Minister in connection with Aircel-Maxis deal.
The summons is issued on him, with regard to the probe into the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance given to Aircel-Maxis 2006.
According to sources, Karthik has been asked to appear before the agency today, and the probe involves FIPB clearance given to Aircel Maxis.
In the CBI charge sheet it has been alleged that a Mauritius based subsidiary firm of Maxis has sought approval for an investment of $800 million in Aircel.
"The said approval was granted by the then finance minister and Karthi’s father P.Chidambaram in violation of the rules. Further investigation is being carried out into the circumstances of the FIPB approval granted by the then finance minister. The related issues are also being investigated", the CBI charge sheet said.
