The bus stand collapse incident in Somanur which claimed the live of five people including a child and a student has instilled fear and evoked anger among the citizens who strongly attribute 'sub-standard' construction as the reason for the collapse of the bus stand roof which was constructed in 2005.
Enraged by the incident, the locals are relentlessly urging the administration to conduct a unbiased probe to ascertain the real reason for the collapse rather than finding a easy escape route by blaming incessant rains and water stagnation in that region.
Responding to people's pressure, Agricultural Production Commissioner and Principal Secretary to Government, Gagandeep Singh Bedi, IAS has been appointed by the government to conduct a comprehensive investigation on the incident.
