A dream shattered! Medical Aspirant Ariyalur Anitha commits suicide


Anitha, the plus two student, of Kulzhumur near Ariyaluar committed suicide under duress as her hopes of joining a medical college stood shattered after the SC verdict which struck down NEET exemption given to Tamilnadu.

The student had ended her life by hanging at her house when her family members were away.

Disappointed over the failure to get medical admission Anitha, the daughter of a daily wage laborer who has hoped against hope to pursue a medical course with cut off marks 196.7 took the extreme step.

 

Anitha, a state board student had filed a case seeking exemption from NEET and was one of the defendants in the case filed by CBSC students in Supreme Court which prayed to strike down the special privilege given to Tamilnadu regarding medical admissions.

Anitha appeared for NEET examination but could not score good marks, due to which she could not get a seat in the ongoing medical admissions.

As the Supreme Court had directed TN Government to complete the process of medical admission before August 30. Anitha knew her dream was shattered! Struck in dismay, poor Anitha took this extreme step. 

“The Tamilnadu Government has misled the student community with regard to NEET, which caused confusion and claimed life of a brilliant student” said Peter Alphonse, Congress Party.
