Innovative campaign by C. Padmanabhan in Race Course

Communist Party of India-Marxist candidate for the Coimbatore South Assembly constituency C. Padmanabhan attracted voters’ attention in Race Course on Monday with a campaign that was quite unusual.

His supporters held placards that said travelling on the ‘left’ is safe. They had punned on the word, ‘left’.

Mr. Padmanabhan said that he did not want to distribute handbills to morning walkers in Race Course because 100 yards away from where the bills were distributed, he was able to find the bills in bins. He had seen this happen to a few of the contestants.

It was only quite natural because the walkers had no where to keep the bills or did not have the time to read those. Plus, he did not want the place littered. He therefore chose to catch their attention with some slogans on placards.

Eight teams of student-members of the Students’ Federation of India held placards.

The idea clicked and won appreciation, he claimed and added that many walkers, paused a second or two, read the placards and reacted with thumbs-up.
