No seizure made from AIADMK functionary’s house

No money or valuable were seized during a raid at the house of the AIADMK councillor M. Rajendran alias ‘Vakkil’ Rajendran at Senthil Nagar at Kavundampalam by Income Tax (IT) Department officials on Sunday night.

The raid was conducted by a team led by IT Deputy Commissioner Rani Kanchana following a call to the election control room on Sunday that money was stocked in his house.

The raid began around 7.30 p.m. on Sunday and concluded at 1.30 a.m. on Monday.

After the raid an expenditure monitoring committee official said that there was no seizure and that the IT department will follow up with the outcome of the raid. The informer when contacted by election officials was still confident that there was money in the house.

Mr. Rajendran told reporters that persons from other political parties had made a false complaint to election officials.

He said that he had Rs. 3 lakh at home and he could substantiate the source for Rs. 1 lakh.

“For Rs. 2 lakh I had proper substantiation for the transaction (rent collected) but did not have documents to support it. They (IT officials) have asked me to pay a fine for it. But the money was not seized,” he said.

Earlier tensed moments prevailed late Sunday night as there was a minor clash between Bharatiya Janata Party and AIADMK cadre in front of the house that was raided. However, the situation was brought under control by the Thudiyalur Police.
