Family of deceased donate liver, kidneys

A 50-year-old man who suffered a severe brain stroke on February 10, was rushed to PSG Hospitals on Monday. However, by the time the man reached the hospital from Dharapuram, he lost consciousness. Three of his organs were donated by his family.

S Dhandapani, who was running a computer centre in Dharapuram, had undergone an open heart surgery in PSG Hospitals a year ago and was reportedly fine after the surgery. At 11am on Monday, he began vomiting and suffering from mild speech impairment. When he was rushed to a local hospital he again vomited while being examined by the doctor.

The local hospital immediately put him into an ambulance to transfer him to PSG. ""However, by the time we reached and admitted him, he had already vomited thrice and lost consciousness,"" he said. The doctors found that he had a tumour in his brain, which caused him to have a stroke.

The doctors declared him brain dead on Wednesday morning and informed his wife and two daughters. His family immediately agreed to donate his organs. The Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu (TRANSTAN) allotted a liver to Gem Hospitals and both his kidneys to KG Hospitals.
