The body of an 11-year old boy was found in a well at an agricultural field at Kulathupalayam near Kuniyamuthur here on Thursday. Police said, the boy went missing on February 7. He often visited various abandoned wells to capture pigeons. But he did not know how to swim and was found dead in a 60ft deep well.

The boy was identified as V Karthik Kumar, 11 from Kulathupalayam village near Kuniyamuthur. He was a school drop-out who often sought out abandoned wells to capture pigeons. His mother V Kaliyammal, 30, a daily wage labourer had admonished him on February 7 and advised him to go to school. He left home never to return again.

Kaliyammal approached Kuniyamuthur police inspector G Murugesan who registered a boy missing case. ""The mother told us that her son used to visit various abandoned wells. So, we conducted searches near wells. Meanwhile we got information that a body was found in a well at a farm land in Kulathupalayam. With the help of fire and rescue service personnel, the body was retrieved from the well and the mother identified her son,"" said inspector Murugesan.
