To increase awareness about the World Book Day and to promote the habit of reading among the general public, Isha Foundation conducted a massive campaign throughout Tamil Nadu on Saturday.
They put up more than 180 stalls in Coimbatore, Chennai, Pondicherry, Madurai, Tiruchirapalli, Vellore, Erode, Nagercoil, Tirunelveli among others.
The foundation distributed 25,000 books to the general public for a subsidised rate. More than 500 volunteers took part in these activities.
Isha Foundation, in collaboration with IALA (Indian Academic Librarian Association) Tamil Nadu organised an essay writing competition in about 150 colleges in Tamil Nadu, to create awareness about the importance of reading. Prizes were distributed at St. Joseph College, Trichirapalli.
They donated books worth Rs.36 lakh to nine government libraries in Chennai that were destroyed in floods.
