Plans to increase component supply to Korean companies

Manufacturers of components and electronic products in Coimbatore are looking at possibility of supplying these to Korean companies in India.

On Wednesday, Kyungsoo Kim, Consul General of Republic of Korea, in Chennai, had a meeting with 30 to 40 members of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) – Coimbatore.

According to Nethra J.S. Kumar, chairperson of CII – Coimbatore Zone, there are 100-odd Korean companies in Chennai that supply to automobile and electronic manufacturers there. In Coimbatore, there are several components manufacturers who supply to Germany and other countries. But, there are not many who supply to the Korean manufacturers and this was discussed at the meeting. There are plans to have a buyer-seller meet here in a couple of months.

Textiles is one sector where there is more business between Coimbatore and Korean companies. Some textile mills are supply yarn to buyers in Korea and Tirupur has a Korean garment company.

Korea has a good number of foundries and it was suggested at the meeting that a delegation of foundrymen here could visit some of the Korean units.

Another area where Korea can support Coimbatore is in river restoration. It had restored a river successfully and hence, can share inputs with Coimbatore for restoration of the Noyyal.

There are several Korean students who are studying in India and they could look at joining the institutions here as Coimbatore is known for the large number of educational institutions.
