Malayalam Film Festival in Bengaluru from Friday

Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy (KCA) to promote the plural culture of the country is all set to host a three-day Malayalam Film Festival in Bengaluru from Friday.

KCA in association with the Department of Information and Public Relations and Kerala State Chalanachitra Academy will also screen Kannada films at Tiruvanatapuram for three days from August 26 to 28.

According to S.V. Rajendra Singh Babu, chairman KCA, it is an unique effort to exchange rich culture of both the States. KCA earlier screened cream of Kannada films in New Delhi, Kolkota, Chennai, besides screening landmark Bengali films in Bengaluru. Malayalam Film Festival is another step in the direction.

Minister for Bengaluru Development K.J. George will inaugurate the festival at 2.30 p.m. on August 11 at Chamundeshwari Studios in Vasanth Nagar. Noted film maker Girish Kasaravalli will deliver keynote address. Noted Malayalam film personalities including Dileesh Pathan, Vidhu Vincent and actor Vinod Fort will participate in the festival and exchange their views with the audience.

Manhole by Vidhu Vincent will the inaugural film and it will be followed by Maheshinte Prathikaaram by Dileesh Pathan. Aaradi by Saji S. Palamel, Kismath by Shanvas K Bavakutty and Kammatti Paadam by Rajeev Ravi will be screened on Saturday.

God Say by Shyju Govind and Sherry Govindan, Mohavalayam by T.V. Chandran and Kaadu Pookunna Neram by Bijukumar Damodaran will be screened on Sunday. Noted Kannada film maker P. Sheshadri will speak about the films on the occasion.

Films that created ripples in Kannada film industry in recent days including U-Turn of Pawan Kumar, Thithi by Ram Reddy, Kirik Party by Rishab Shetty, Harikatha Prasanga by Ananya Kasaravalli, Naanu Avanalla Avalu by B.S. Lingadevaru and Rama Rama Re by D. Satya Prakash will be screened in Kannada Film Festival to be held at Tiruvananthapuram.

Mr. Rajendra Singh Babu told The Hindu, that the next venture is taking Kannada films to Hyderabad and Mumbai and screening Marathi and Telugu films in Bengaluru. “Besides helping in expanding Kannada film market, this move will help to introduce Kannada films to Telugu and Marathi audience. At the same time Kannada audience and film makers will be introduced to cream of Telugu and Marathi films,” said. Mr. Babu.
