The sudden price hike of platform ticket to Rs.20 from earlier Rs.10 at the Tiruchi Railway junctiocn, an important transit point to in the state has raised many eye brows of train passengers.
They indeed wondered whether this would be done across the board and other major junctions in the state would follow suit.
However, brushing aside such rumors that the platform ticket prices would be hiked in other stations and junctions in the Southern Railway, the Harishankar Varma Divisional Railway Manager (Salem Divison) said that the effected price hike of plat form tickets in Tiruchy is due to increasing rush in the festival season.
"As Tiruchy is an import transit point to various destinations including Velankanni, Srirangam, Thanjavur and Kumbakonam this hike is effected which would be in place till September 30" the DRM said.
