District Collector T.N.Hariharan has made an appeal to devotees to prepare a sanctify Vinayakar idols using environmentally - friendly materials such as clay, and cuppa batter during Vinayakar Chathurthi. Using plaster of Paris idols, washed with artificial colorants and paints sanctifying them for worship is banned due to its polluting nature of water bodies, in which it would be immersed later.
Sanctifying Vinayakar idols made up of environmentally polluting materials and paints would be seized. The water bodies are getting increasing polluted due to immersion of Vinayakar idols made up of polluting materials, the Collector said.
