Parliamentarian P.K.Kunhalikutty has demanded that restrictions on operation of wide-bodied aircraft in Kozhikode International Airport be lifted as the airport serves as a hub for all the major airlines.
Raising the issue at zero hour in Loksahba he said the airport serves the entire Malabar region where from thousands of expatriates travel daily in and out of this Airport. The Airport Authority of India had imposed the month of May, 2015 due to run-way re-carpeting work. Now the re-carpeting work has been completed.
Therefore, immediate action needs to be taken on the following issues: Permission to operate wide-bodied aircrafts may be granted. It is suggested that AB 320 Neo may be put on operation to meet the pressing demands of the Saudi bound passengers particularly for Jeddah/Riyadh destinations. Secondly, this Airport was the Haj embarkation point all these years, but for the re-carpeting work, it was shifted to Kochi Airport. Haj embarkation point at Kozhikode should also be restored .Presently, there is no direct flight to Delhi from Kozhikode.
“Air India flight operated on this sector via Mumbai-Coimbatore was withdrawn. It is suggested that a direct service from Kozhikode to Delhi via Mumbai or Chennai may be introduced to meet the demands of the people from various quarters like business community, public representatives, officials etc. of Malabar region”, Kunhalikutti said.
