"Garbage pileup and poor maintenance of sewers by corporation has led to dengue", MLA Karthik.

The outbreak of dengue in Coimbatore and Tiruppur has claimed three lives and the break out is said to be worse in rural areas of Pollachi taluk said MLA Karthik of Singanallur constituency.

MLA Karthik, who inspected the facilities available for dengue patients in the Government Medical college hospital later briefed the media.



While attributing the deteriorating sanitary conditions in the city to the outbreak of dengue fever, he alleged that the city corporation is slack in implementing anti-dengue measures.



“The garbage pile up have not been cleared in the many places in the city and poor maintenance of sewers attributes to hygienic issues like dengue. The situation is even worse in rural areas of the district, as over 80% of sanitary and clean up works have not been carried out at all”, the legislator alleged.



Appealing to the carry out dengue prevention works to the health and rural development departments on a war footing, MLA Karthik said private hospitals and NGOs would be roped in on behalf of his party DMK to create awareness on dengue fever, which is presently creating havoc in the region.
