The Income Tax Department raids on the residences of Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar, his brother D.K. Suresh, MP, and at the Eagleton Resorts, where over 40 legislators from Gujarat have been provided accommodation, has sent shock waves among leaders of the ruling Congress in the State.
While Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the IT raids were “politically motivated,” Water Resources Ministers M.B. Patil said the BJP government was pursuing “vendetta politics.”
Mr. Paitl said highly places sources told him that his residence would also be raided by the I-T officials any time now. “I am next in the list,” he said and added that he was not panic about possible raids on his residence or office.
Mr. Patil said the NDA government has been using I-T and other agencies for targeting political enemies and to demoralise the Congress government in the State.
Chief in the Legislative Council Ivan D’souza said the NDA government has been misusing the IT officials. “Why raids on the Congress leaders’ houses only?” he asked.
A few months ago, the IT raids were conducted on the residences of Minister Ramesh Jharkiholi, KPCC women-wing president Lakshmi Hebbalkar and Congress MLA M.T.B. Nagaraj.
Supporters of Mr. Shivakumar staged a protests in front of his residence in the city against the raids.
Raids were also conducted on residences of MLC Ravi, a close associated of Mr. Shivakumar.
