Public health department officials have been conducting fever camps in K K Pudur and going door-to-door, checking for fever patients.
This move comes after a 65-year-old man from the area died of the H1N1 virus on Tuesday morning. The department has already begun giving prophylactic treatment to the victim's family members and senior citizens among his neighbors.
The city's public health department has been on prevention overdrive since Monday night, when the victim first tested positive for the virus. "The department immediately got in touch with us to check if any of us were suffering fever, sore throat or a cold," said J Suresh, son of the victim, V Jayabal.
