City Corporation continues to slap fine for open defecation


With an avowed aim to make the city open defecation- free the City Corporation has conducted raids and slapped fines to the tune of Rs. 2,400 on those who were found to be using open areas for open defecation.

Despite a concerted campaign by the civic body, the menace continues in the city and people who defecated in the open in ward 7.17.18,22, 35  including Lakshimipuram, sundapalayam, Kamarajapurm were slapped with spot fines.

The corporation has exhorted the citizens to use only individual toilets or sanitary complexes in their respective areas.

"The corporation has taken up construction of individual toilets under Swacch Bharat Mission and city denizens are encouraged to use the same instead of defecating in the open. for that.  The city has already been awarded as an 'open defecation free city' and the citizen cooperation is mandatory to achieve this end" said CCMC Commissioner K.Vijayakarthikeyan who also added that city residents can inform about of  lack of sanitary facilities and  complexes in their respective areas.
