191 kg of plastic covers below 50 microns seized, Rs.46,600 fine slapped


CCM Corporation officials have conducted surprise raids and seized a whopping 191 kg of plastic products from 445 shops and slapped a total fine of Rs. 46,600 on the erring shop keepers.

The seizures were effected from shops from July 22 to July 28 across five zones of the civic body.

Intensifying its campaign to eradicate the use of plastics which fall below 50 micron levels the City Corporation officials have stepped up its monitoring and regular seizures of banned plastics is effected every week by dedicated teams.

The civic body is carrying out regular checks in shops and business establishments to eradicate the use of plastics. Offenders shop keepers, who violate the rules are slapped with fines.

‘The fines are levied under Plastic wastes Management rules 2016 and shopkeepers selling plastic products below 50 micron level are taken to task and fined. The raids would continue further in all the five zones of the civic body” said CCMC Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan.
