Return nomination forms

Returning officers, or assistant returning officers of the 10 Assembly constituencies in the district who had given nomination form for the Assembly election have sought the return of those.

The reasons they had cited was a change in format of the nomination form for a change in wordings, said sources.

The issue came to light when two members of the Communist Party of India-Marxist Leninist (CPI – ML) got a call from returning officers for the return of the form. One of the two, M.S. Velmurugan, told reporters at the Coimbatore Collectorate on Tuesday that his party colleague P. Natarajan and he collected the forms on Saturday last.

On Monday they got a call for the return of the forms saying that there was a printing mistake. The returning officers for Assembly constituencies in other parts of the State too would have distributed such forms and prospective candidates would have collected those.

How are the officials going to get back the forms. In some cases, it will lead to eleventh hour confusion because the prospective candidates would get to know of the change in form only while filing the nomination and that would leave very little time for correction, said Mr. Velmurugan.

Officials said that based on an order from the Election Commission they had to ask the prospective candidates to return the forms. The new forms have arrived and were available with the returning officers and assistant returning officers.
