Actor's daughter files harassment plaint

Veteran actor KR Vijaya's 47-year-old daughter who resides on Avinashi Road, Coimbatore, lodged a complaint with Race Course police station on Monday evening, seeking action against a realtor who has been harassing and compelling her to marry him.

Race Course police have registered a case and arrested the man.

The arrested person has been identified as R Kathirvelu, 41, from Ramasamy layout at Pappanaickenpalayam.

Police said, Hemalatha Madathil, a resident of Tristar Enclave on Avinashi road, resides with her relatives in an apartment. She is the daughter of veteran actor K R Vijaya. Both her children are studying abroad.

K R Vijaya has starred in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu films. She started her career in the 1960s. She has been acting for more than four decades now in South Indian cinema. She has worked with almost all the stalwarts of South Indian cinema and has played a variety of roles

On Monday evening, Hemalatha lodged a complaint with Race Course police inspector V Selvaraj claiming that Kathirvelu had somehow collected personal details about her, including her place of residence and contact number and began calling her over mobile phone.

On April 15, he called her and began speaking to her in a vulgar manner. He asked inappropriate questions and informed her that his wife was unwell. He expressed his wish to marry her.

Even though Hemalatha told him that she was not interested in a relationship, he continued to pursue her. He continued to send her distasteful messages even though he was told on several occasions not to disturb her.

Based on her complaint, police registered a case against Kathirvelu under sections 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women act and 506 (i) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. Police arrested Kathirvelu and remanded him to judicial custody.

K R Vijaya has starred in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu films. She started her career in the 1960s.

She has been acting for more than four decades now in South Indian cinema.
