Music workshop begins in Coimbatore

The Hindu Young World Rhapsody Music workshop by Anil Srinivasan, pianist, and Sudha Raja began at four places in Coimbatore on Tuesday.

The aim is to combine music with education.

The workshops will be held in Chennai, Salem, Namakkal, Trichy, and Madurai too. Music and creative expression, music and craft, music and language, music and mathematics are some of the ways music is used to teach children the other subjects in an innovative and fun manner.

About 100 children are attending the workshop.

The next workshop will be held in two batches in the following centres in Coimbatore: Honey Peps Academy – Civil Aerodrome, Yuva Early School – Periyanaickenpalayam, Little Millennium – Saibaba colony and Kidzee Learning Academy – Sivananda colony.

The syllabus includes (for 4-6 years): story telling, craft work, songs on cricket, plants, birds, learning mathematics through rhythms and other activities. For juniors (7-10) and seniors (11-14 years) activities like learning about the science of stars, the human body, plants, relativity, birds, water through music ,board games, treasure hunt, will be conducted.

The children will receive a certificate from The Hindu and Rhapsody. An event will be organised at the end of the camp to showcase all that the children have learnt. The fee for the camp is Rs. 2,000 for 2 weeks. To register, visit:www.thehindu.com/summer music.
