Van Mahotsav, the annual tree planting festival was celebrated with planting of 500 saplings near Singanallur Lake.
The Van Mahotsav is being observed form July 1-7 all over India. Sapling of 50 tree species were planted adopting Akira Myawaki method, for restoration of natural vegetation on degraded lands near Singnallur lake.

CCMC Commissioner K.Vijayakarthikeyan, Shankar, Director of SACON, Conservator of forests Gnanasubramanyam participated in the tree planting initiative, which is being observed all over the nation form 1959.

It has been planned to grow 2000 saplings and nurture them in one kilometers stretch. In 2015 saplings were planted in 4 square kilometers. Volunteers are engaged in tending the sapling said the organizers.
