Six PPG nursing students booked for ransacking their college property

Police have booked six students of a private nursing college on Saturday for ransacking the campus while protesting against the college authorities of alleged negligent handling of a student who met with an accident and died.

They have been booked under Tamil Nadu Public Property (Prevention of Damage and Loss) Act and rioting. However, they have not been arrested by the police.

According to police, D Lenoy, 19, a second year student of PPG College of Nursing and Physiotheraphy in Saravanampatti was injured in a hit and run accident on Thursday. He was taken to a hospital run by the college management, where Lenoy succumbed to the injuries. As news of the death spread, students of the college went on a rampage ransacking the institution. They alleged that there was a delay in taking Lenoy to the hospital. Besides, they claimed that the college authorities refused to rush him to a better hospital and instead chose to take him to the hospital run by the management.

The angry students damaged the doors and windows of the hospital as well besides damaging college properties. The college principal's car was also attacked damaging the windows of the vehicle.

The students accused the authorities of handling the issue in a negligent manner resulting in the death of the student. The management however denied the charges .

The management initially chose not to lodge a complaint and attempted to resolve the issue. But on Saturday, principal of the college K Raja Senthil submitted a complaint. According to the complaint, the worth of the damaged properties was Rs 15 to 20 lakh. Based on the complaint, police booked Srihari, Stephen, Alaguraj, Raja, Ajin and Mathuavaraj.
