Suspected Coimbatore Stray Dog Attack Turns Out to be Murder, 2 Held

The Singanallur Police arrested a 45-year-old woman and her lover for the murder of the woman’s husband, whose tattered body was found near G V Residency in Singanallur here on Monday morning.

As the body had bite marks all over, police had initially thought that some stray dogs had attacked the man and killed him.

However, a postmortem reports on the victim identified by police as K Pugalendi (47) from Kallimedu, Singanallur, revealed that he was stabbed in the neck, and that the dogs had bitten chunks of the man’s body only after his death.

Morning walkers discovered the corpse on Monday morning and had alerted the police, who registered a case and began investigations.

Based on the postmortem report, the police then began questioning the kin of the deceased, and also checked their mobile phone calls.

Police learned that Pugalendi’s wife P Maheshwari (45), a construction worker, had been in an illicit relationship with 24-year-old Prasad.

Prasad is a native of Nagapattinam.

The construction worker ha had developed friendship with the man while working at a building site. Later they allegedly went on to have an illicit relationship.

Police found that mobile call logs hinted at a conspiracy to kill Pugalendi, as Prasad had called Maheshwari around the same time the victim is believed to have died.

On interrogating Prasad, police learnt that he and Maheshwari conspired to murder Pugalendi by first getting him intoxicated with alcohol, before slitting his throat with a knife.

Hence, as planned, the two men had consumed alcohol together and killed him.

Pugalendi is said to have often picked up fights with Prasad asking him to stop meeting his wife, and also stop visiting their house.

However, Prasad would regularly buy Pugalendi liquor at the local TASMAC shop, Singanallur police said.

Both Prasad and Maheshwari were booked under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code with regard to the case and remanded in judicial custody.
