Coimbatore is set to celebrate the 80th Independence Day at VOC Grounds on August 15, with District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar hoisting the national flag at 8.50 a.m., followed by tributes to the descendants of freedom fighters, presentation of awards to achievers from various departments and cultural programmes.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore district is set to mark the 80th Independence Day with a ceremonial programme at VOC Grounds on August 15, with the celebrations scheduled to begin at 8.50 a.m., according to the official invitation issued by the district administration.
District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar will preside over the celebrations and receive the ceremonial salute. The programme will commence with the hoisting of the national flag, followed by the national anthem and the inspection of the ceremonial parade.
The celebrations will also feature the presentation of awards and certificates to individuals recognised for their achievements and special services.
Cultural programmes are scheduled to follow the ceremonial proceedings, with school and college students expected to participate.
