Tamilnadu College of Engineering inaugurated NEXORA'26 for its Information Technology department, with Accenture's Hemanathan Velusamy discussing AI and digital transformation. Dr Anusha Ravi urged students to combine IT with other engineering disciplines to develop practical innovations.

Coimbatore: The Department of Information Technology at Tamilnadu College of Engineering inaugurated its departmental association, NEXORA'26, for the academic year 2026–27 on August 7. The association aims to provide students with opportunities to strengthen technical knowledge, leadership skills, professional competencies and participation in co-curricular activities.

The programme began with a welcome address by R. Harini, final-year Information Technology student, who welcomed the dignitaries, faculty members and students. Prof. R. Ponneela Vignesh, Head of the Department of Information Technology, introduced the association's office bearers and highlighted their role in organising academic and professional activities for students.

The inaugural address was delivered by chief guest Hemanathan Velusamy, Manager – Business Transformation & AI Consultant, Accenture India. A former student of Tamilnadu College of Engineering, he completed his B.Tech in Information Technology from 2008 to 2012 and holds a Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.

With 12 years of professional experience, including five years in Business Transformation and AI Consulting, Hemanathan Velusamy spoke about developments in Artificial Intelligence and digital transformation. He encouraged students to continuously upgrade their technical and professional skills to meet changing industry requirements.

Dr. Anusha Ravi, CEO, Park Institutions, congratulated the Information Technology department and spoke about the capabilities and limitations of Artificial Intelligence. She said AI can process information quickly, identify patterns and automate repetitive tasks, but cannot replace human values, imagination, empathy, responsibility and ethical judgement.

She further emphasised the importance of collaboration between Information Technology and other disciplines. According to her, many useful innovations can emerge when IT works together with fields such as mechanical engineering, electronics, civil engineering, biomedical engineering and management. She encouraged students from different departments to collaborate and develop interdisciplinary solutions.

Dr. N. S. Sakthivel Murugan, Principal of Tamilnadu College of Engineering, felicitated the gathering and highlighted the role of departmental association activities in developing students' technical knowledge, leadership qualities, teamwork and organisational skills.
