We The Leaders Periyanaickenpalayam West Union organized a turf cricket tournament in Kanuvai, Coimbatore to create awareness about drug abuse prevention and environmental protection. Centurions Cricket team won first place among 12 participating teams in the competition held at SRD Turf ground.
Coimbatore: We The Leaders organization, founded by former IPS officer Annamalai, through its Periyanaickenpalayam West Union, organized turf cricket tournaments in Kanuvai area of Coimbatore to create awareness against drug abuse and environmental protection.
We The Leaders organization observed last month as drug abuse prevention month and this August as environment protection month, conducting various awareness programs. As part of this initiative, a turf cricket tournament was held at SRD Turf ground near Kanuvai in Coimbatore.
We The Leaders volunteer JP alias Jayaprakash inaugurated the opening match. We The Leaders Balaji Uthama Ramasamy started the final match played under floodlights by shaking hands with players, offering wishes, and conducting the toss.
Twelve cricket teams from Coimbatore district participated in the tournament. Each team had six players, with 8 overs allocated per team, and matches were conducted in league format.
Centurions Cricket team secured first place, winning a cash prize of ₹8,000, trophy, and medals. Active Kings team finished second, receiving ₹5,000 cash prize, trophy, and medals. Kuppanaickenpalayam KNCC team took third place, and Varappalayam VCC Cricket team secured fourth place, both receiving trophies and medals.
At the prize distribution ceremony, We The Leaders Balaji Uthama Ramasamy presented awards to the winning teams. Additionally, best player, best bowler, and best batsman were selected and honored with prizes.
Observing August as environment month by We The Leaders organization, saplings and cloth bags were distributed to all participating players to reduce plastic usage.
Earlier, in the presence of special guests, young girl Sahastra Aditya performed an impressive Silambam display. We The Leaders volunteers Paranidharan G, Rajkumar G, Dinesh Kumar G, Jayakumar, Balakumar, Anandakumar, Hari, Udayakumar, Parani Sound Service Subramani, Tadagam Karthikumar, Sureshkumar, Devendhiran, Srinivasan, Gopinath, Senthilkumar, Kumaran, Thamburai, DSA Mohan, Jai Ganesh, Mahesh Kumar, Aravind, Kamal Nath, Vikas, and others participated in the event.
