The bodies of six people from Tamil Nadu who lost their lives in the Vietnam tourist boat capsizing tragedy on July 19 are being brought to Coimbatore International Airport before being transported to their native districts. The first batch, comprising the bodies of three victims from Tiruchirappalli, arrived on Tuesday morning, with elaborate arrangements made for their reception and onward transportation to their hometowns.

The tourist boat tragedy occurred on July 19 in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam when a tourist vessel carrying passengers capsized amid sudden adverse weather conditions, claiming several lives, including six tourists from Tamil Nadu. Following the completion of legal formalities in Vietnam, the bodies were flown to India via Mumbai before being transported to Coimbatore.
The deceased include Senthilkumar Jayavel from Dharmapuri district; Muruga Prabhu Arumugam from near Palani in Dindigul district; Sreedhar Sundararajan from Salem; and three persons from Tiruchirappalli district — Sheikh Abdullah, Balaji and Alagurajan.
The bodies are being flown from Mumbai to Coimbatore on a domestic flight before being handed over to the respective district administrations. After the required procedures at the airport cargo terminal, the bodies are being transported to their hometowns in special ambulances arranged by the Tamil Nadu government.
In the first phase, the bodies of Sheikh Abdullah, Balaji and Alagurajan from Tiruchirappalli arrived at Coimbatore International Airport. The bodies were received in the presence of the Coimbatore Revenue Divisional Officer and placed in ambulances for transportation to Tiruchirappalli.
Alagurajan's friends and relatives, who gathered at the airport, thanked both the Union and Tamil Nadu governments for their swift efforts in bringing the bodies back to India without delay.
They said Alagurajan was the sole breadwinner of his family, working in a private company, and is survived by his wife and two young children. Pointing out that his wife has completed teacher training, they appealed to the Tamil Nadu government to provide her with a government job and adequate compensation to help support the bereaved family.
