Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) has commenced training for personnel engaged in Census 2027, with Commissioner, inspecting a training session held at Perks Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Ward 60 on Sunday.

CCMC Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja, along with Deputy Commissioner Kumaresan and Assistant Commissioner Dakshinamoorthy, visited the training venue and interacted with the staff, reviewing the Census 2027 enumeration process and preparations.

According to the Corporation, Census 2027 will be conducted in two phases. The first phase, comprising House Listing and Housing Census, will be carried out from August 1 - 30, 2026, while the Population Enumeration will take place from February 1 -28, 2027. For the first time, the census will be implemented using a Geographic Information System (GIS)-based platform.

Meanwhile, residents will also have the option to complete self-enumeration online between July 17 - 31 through the official Census portal. After submitting the details, they will receive an 11-digit reference number via SMS, which should be shared with the enumerator visiting their household for verification and final submission.

The Corporation has divided the city into five zones for the enumeration exercise. A total of 3,647 personnel, including Corporation school teachers, government officials and staff, have been deployed for the exercise. Each enumerator has been assigned around 200 houses to complete the survey.

The census schedule will include details relating to buildings and houses, family particulars, drinking water facilities, household assets, digital connectivity, electricity, sanitation and other basic amenities. In addition, 34 questions relating to the personal details of residents will be covered during the enumeration.

The Corporation has appealed to the public to extend full cooperation to the enumerators to ensure the smooth and timely completion of the Census 2027 exercise.
